WELCOME TO THE METALSHOP!

ALL OF OUR CLASSES ARE HELD IN BROOKLYN

Hedron Studio teaches welding classes to students with all levels of experience and backgrounds: from the complete beginner to someone wanting to brush up on their skills.  Our classes are groups of 5 or fewer students so we can focus on students' individual needs.  Introductory classes include demonstrations of welding, grinding, cutting and sanding, ample time to practice and create a sculpture/object of your own design.  Students leave the class with their creation, a good basic understanding of welding, a foundation for thinking about how metal works and, often, a desire to weld something bigger!

Join us for an introductory class in MIG and TIG and you will be eligible for our 300 level Special Project classes where you will be supported through the process of welding a chandelier, table or larger sculpture.

We are excited to offer silversmithing this year!

Classes are taught by Abigail unless otherwise noted.

WELDING 101 CLASSES

Welcome to the metal shop 101!

Hedron Studio works with students of all experience levels: whether you have spent hours welding or haven't picked up a tool in your life, we will get you comfortable in the metal shop.  Students are introduced to the metal shop with tool demonstrations and time to practice fabrication and tool skills. In the class we cover MIG welding, measuring, metal preparation, clamping, cutting, grinding, safety procedures, polishing and finishing techniques for your projects.  Students are encouraged to choose a project of their own design to complete in the class - there will be a variety of steel available for students use, including square tubing, round tube, flat bar, angle iron and rods. Included in the price are all studio consumables and materials for your projects.

We also will talk about what you can expect from your materials and how to start "thinking in metal".  With a strong focus on safety and PPE, you will feel confident establishing a safe practice in the shop.  Students always leave class with something they have designed and welded themselves.

There are no prerequisites to take this class.  Beginners welcome!

After taking this introduction class, students are eligible for TIG and 300 level classes.

WELDING 201: TIG

In this 201 class we will focus on TIG welding and basic metalworking skill-building.

Welcome to the metal shop 201!  BUILDING ON THE SKILLS YOU LEARNED IN 101, YOU WILL BEGIN TO LEARN+LOVE THE TIG WELDER.

We introduce students to the metal shop with tool demonstrations and the time to begin to practice fabrication and tool skills.  We will be working with the TIG welder, angle grinder,  drill press, orbital sanders, horizontal bandsaw, chop saw, and various hand tools to set a strong foundation for working with metal.  TIG welding is incredibly versatile and more difficult than MIG welding.  Students will receive  several short videos to watch before class to get ready to learn.   We focus on safety and Personal Protective Equipment (click -> PPE) so you can establish a safe practice in the shop.

Students always leave class with something they have welded themselves!

Included in the price are all studio consumables and materials for your projects. We will be working with steel.

After purchasing the class, we will email you further information about the class and safety precautions.
