Celia Laskey Class!
It can be overwhelming thinking about where to start when it comes to writing a novel, both on an emotional level and a craft level. As an author who’s published 3 novels with big-5 publishers and has an MFA, I’ve devised a tried-and-true method to help you work through your own psychological blocks around writing a novel, get to know your main character deeply, start and outline your novel, and write a query letter.
Every class will open with some quick emotional work around our own psychological blocks, then we’ll transition to craft. This is because I believe that no amount of craft knowledge can make up for a lack of self-belief, a very loud inner critic, or any other strong limiting beliefs. Craft-wise, the first few weeks will focus on getting to know your main character’s deepest desire and a core misbelief that stands in the way of that desire. How your protagonist overcomes this misbelief is what your story is about. Then we’ll move to the nuts and bolts of plotting and outlining your novel. We’ll finish by drafting and workshopping a query letter for your ideal agents.
We’ll use Lisa Cron’s Story Genius: How to Use Brain Science to Go Beyond Outlining and Write a Riveting Novel and Jessica Brody’s Save the Cat! Writes a Novel: The Last Book On Novel Writing You’ll Ever Need as our textbooks.
DM me or email me using the contact form on my website (link in bio!) to sign up or ask questions. If you want to take the class but 7-9 pm EST doesn’t work for you, let me know and we can change the time if it works for everyone! If the class doesn’t reach capacity (~10 people), it may be canceled or moved to a later date.
