Workshops 

All classes are held in our studio in the city of Hudson, New York. Hudson is easily accessible to NYC by AMTRAK (right downtown Hudson) or car.

Hedron Studio teaches welding, metalsmithing, jewelry and make-your-own-wedding-rings classes in Hudson, NY to students with all levels of experience and backgrounds : from the complete beginner to someone wanting to brush up on their skills.  Our classes are usually groups of 6 or fewer students so we can focus on students' individual needs.  

Introductory classes include demonstrations of smithing/welding/torching, grinding, cutting and sanding as well ample time to practice and create a sculpture/object/jewelry of your own design.  Students leave the class with their creations, a good basic understanding of welding/silversmithing, a foundation for thinking about how metal works and, often, a desire to make something bigger! Every student makes their own creative project.

Intro to Jewelry Making - Silversmithing

Join us in the jewelry studio for a day of silversmithing! In this 4 hour class you will learn how to use a torch to melt and manipulate silver, brass and bronze. Students learn traditional metalsmithing techniques and gain familiarity with a variety of hand tools, including the flex shaft grinder, hammers, pliers, stamps, burrs and files. Every student gets to design and make their own project with all the support you need. Come with an idea, or just your own creativity and enjoy melting and fabricating with precious metals! Students generally make several rings, earrings, small sculptural objects, necklace pendants, or any other small project they can think of! Students are supplied with silver for 3 stacking rings (or whatever you choose to make) and lots of variously sized brass and bronze.

Please ear clothing made of natural fibers, and closed toe shoes! Class is held in the city of Hudson from 11-3pm, choose a date below. Classes are 3-6 students.

Sandcasting Silver Workshop

Join us for a workshop learning how to sandcast silver! Students will melt silver with a torch in the crucible and pour it into prepared sandcast flasks. It is a careful process with amazing results! if you love the perfectly-imperfect and one-of-a-kind jewelry, this is the class for you! You will also be guided in cleaning, polishing and finishing your pieces. All students receive enough silver for one ring (or similarly sized item) and 2 lab sapphires for their pour. If students would like to make something bigger, or use more stones, we are happy to sell them to you day-of. No experience needed!

Students are also encouraged to bring their own silver items to melt down! We will assess them before melting to make sure they’ll work.

Class is held in Hudson, NY and is 5 hours, from 11-4. Choose your date below.

Creative Welding 101

Welcome to the metalshop! In this 101 class students learn the basics of MIG welding, metal preparation, grinding and cleaning and plasma cutting. We also will use a variety of hand tools. Students each make their own small creative projects in a supportive workshop setting. Please wear natural fiber clothing, including long sleeve options for use while welding, closed toe shoes, and tie hair back. We will provide earplugs and protective glasses for use during class. No experience required! Come learn to love steel!

Class is held in the city of Hudson, NY. Classes are non-refundable but you are welcome to send someone in your place if you can’t make it. If the cost is prohibitive please email us about work trade options. Classes are 4 hours, from 11-3.

  • Of course! We can talk about what is possible in class, or feel free to send an email ahead of time. We try very hard to meet students’ goals for their projects!

  • We don’t have set breaks, but we do have a patio you can take a break on!

  • Yes! it’s about a 20-30 minute walk coming through town.

  • We have parking on site! The studio is a short walk from the driveway and has one step to get inside. We have armless stools and cushioned chairs made of steel to sit on. The bathroom is up 6 stairs.
