SHARD Brass Artifact I
SHARD Brass Artifact I
This piece is about 3/4” long.
Every piece in the artifact series is made one at a time; inevitably unique and specific. I first cut the shapes from sheets of solid brass or steel with a plasma cutter. I then use a TIG welder to weld additional brass, steel and bronze to the surface of the piece. Once the metal has accumulated into patterns that i like, i sand the edges so make them smooth and treat the surface with Renaissance wax to preserve it.
Artifact pieces may change color over time, if exposed to water (especially salt water), lotion, etc. The original finish can be re-exposed by lightly sanding the surface with sandpaper or scotchbright (the abrasive green side of a dry sponge). Because these pieces use industrial metals, the are incredibly durable and tough, while being light and bright.
